Eleven Marches players represented the 50 or so strong Heart of England Squad at the Regional Championships at Hayling Island last weekend.

Two of the four Juniors for HoE were Katie and Rachel from Sundowners and they contributed to the Region achieving their highest ever finishing position of third place - playing against current and former England internationals, this was a great result for them. Given the England team juniors and other very good players from the likes of Kent and Chiltern, they did really well and deserved their medals.

Dan deBurgo also played in the Junior combined team, and whilst wins were scarce, they had the satisfaction late on Sunday of beating East Midlands, whose team comprised one of the current England juniors who are going to Thailand for the world championships.

Promotion back to the first division of the 'Main' and promotion from Division 2 of the Challenge were the objectives for the slightly older squad members. All of the Senior squad contributed to achieving both - The Main squad finishing top of Division 2 and the Challenge team getting their promotion also.

Steve, Pete, Carol and Andy had the most daunting task, playing at No. 2 in the main competition - meaning they play the No. 1 and 2 from the other Regions and had some vital wins and also lost several to 12.

Steve, Ian, Jordan and Bill won 8 out of their 12 games, making a good contribution to the 'challenge' squad's overall total of 27 wins and promotion.

Therefore a great weekend for the Region, with every squad member being presented with a medal at the presentation on Sunday night.
